Preservation archive for the Korg SoundLink DRS 1212 I/O PCI Multi-Channel Audio Interface, containing classic Mac OS driver/software releases, Korg/Steinberg ASIO software, historical Korg FAQ/support pages, original StuffIt distributions and the English owner's manual.
The Korg 1212 I/O was a full-length PCI digital audio interface designed for the SoundLink DRS system. It provides 8-channel ADAT optical input/output, stereo S/PDIF input/output and stereo analog input/output, for a total of 12 simultaneous inputs and 12 simultaneous outputs when supported by the host software. It also provides ADAT timecode synchronization, Word Clock input/output and onboard DSP routing/format-conversion functions.
This archive preserves software from several stages of the 1212 I/O's classic Mac OS development, including releases 1.1, 1.2, 1.3.1 and 2.0.2, together with a standalone Korg/Steinberg ASIO v4.0 driver and multiple generations of Korg's 1212 I/O FAQ.
Included files
1212 I/O Version 1.1.zip
Classic Mac OS 1212 I/O software version 1.1.
Contents include:
Korg
1212 I/Osystem extension/driver, version 1.11212 I/O Utility 1.1Apple
Soundcontrol panel, version 8.0.51212 I/O v1.1 Update Read Me, dated October 16, 1997
The Read Me documents installation, Apple Sound Manager support, auto-routing, the new Save As Defaults... command, compatible Sound Manager applications, Cubase VST 3.5 compatibility, Digital Performer 2.1.1 support, troubleshooting and system compatibility.
The Sound Manager implementation provides two-channel input/output through the 1212 I/O while the Korg Utility selects which physical 1212 I/O channels are assigned to Sound Manager.
The archive also contains later .DS_Store / __MACOSX metadata created during subsequent re-packaging; these files are not part of the original Korg software itself.
1212 I/O 1.2.zip
Classic Mac OS Korg 1212 I/O driver version 1.2.
The archive contains a single MacBinary II file preserving the classic Mac resource fork. Internal resources identify it as Korg's 1212 I/O native driver (ndrv), version 1.2.
Preserved MacBinary modification date: August 3, 1998.
No separate Read Me is included in this ZIP.
1212 I/O 1.3.1.zip
Korg 1212 I/O Mac software beta/update package dated June 30, 1999.
Contents:
1212 I/O 1.3.1extension — internally versioned 1.3.1b11212 I/O Utility 1.3.1— internally versioned 1.3.1b2Read Me 1212 I/O 1.3.1custom 1212 I/O icon resource
The Read Me identifies the distribution as 1212 I/O release 1.3.1b2 and instructs users to continue using the earlier 1.3.1b1 extension with the new 1.3.1b2 Utility.
The Utility update fixes compatibility with the PACE USB Floppy Enabler. The Read Me also notes that MAS- and ASIO-related software may require corresponding updates.
The 1.3.1b1 extension contains a FireWire-related compatibility fix and intentionally removes the 1212 I/O icon that earlier drivers displayed during Mac startup. The lack of a startup icon is therefore normal for this version.
Korg's later FAQ documentation identifies 1212 I/O software 1.3.1 or later as the version required for use with Blue & White Power Mac G3 and Power Mac G4 systems.

FAQ version history
Of particular archival interest is 1212_adat_sync_word_clock.htm, which explains that selecting ADAT as the 1212 I/O clock source derives Word Clock from the ADAT optical input, while the separate 9-pin ADAT Sync connector carries ADAT timecode rather than Word Clock.
This page was not present in the supplied list of known Wayback Machine 1212 I/O URLs and may preserve support information not represented by the known web captures.
The November 2000 FAQ update substantially reorganized the Korg support material, including splitting the former 1212_general_info.htm page into more specific individual topics.
1212_V131.sit
Original-style Korg StuffIt 5 / classic Mac software distribution for 1212 I/O 1.3.1.
Embedded archive metadata identifies components including:
1212 I/O v1.3.11212 I/O Utility 1.3.11212 I/O 1.3.1 Update Read MeInstall In System Folderbundled
1212_FAQ_HTMLsupport documentation
The bundled FAQ is historically distinct from the November 2000 standalone FAQ archive. It retains the older 1212_general_info.htm page, which Korg later removed and divided into individual FAQ topics.
The original StuffIt file is preserved because classic Mac archives may contain resource forks, Finder metadata and file-type/creator information that can be lost when files are extracted or recompressed on modern systems.
1212_V202.sit
Later Korg StuffIt distribution for 1212 I/O 2.0.2.
Embedded archive directory information identifies:

1212_FAQ_HTMLdocumentation
This appears to be one of the most complete surviving Korg 1212 I/O Mac software distributions because it combines the native driver, Korg utility, ASIO driver, installation structure, Read Me and offline support documentation.
Its bundled FAQ tree appears to contain an older FAQ generation, including 1212_general_info.htm.

ASIO Korg 1212.zip
Standalone classic Mac ASIO driver for the Korg 1212 I/O.
The archive contains a MacBinary II file whose classic Macintosh resources identify it as:
ASIO Korg 1212 I/O v4.0
©1998 Korg/Steinberg
Macintosh file type: AsDr
Creator: stCA
This is a resource-fork-based classic Mac ASIO driver intended to provide direct 1212 I/O support to ASIO-compatible digital-audio software.
Preservation notes
The original ZIP and StuffIt archives have been retained without modification.
Several included classic Macintosh files use MacBinary II, resource forks, Macintosh file types/creator codes and/or StuffIt archive structures. These formats should be preserved in their original form because extraction and recompression on a modern operating system can discard historically important Macintosh metadata or resource-fork data.
The collection also preserves multiple generations of Korg's offline FAQ documentation. Some FAQ pages contained in these distributions predate their earliest known Wayback Machine captures, and at least one page in the November 2000 offline FAQ (1212_adat_sync_word_clock.htm) is not represented in the supplied list of known Korg 1212 I/O Wayback URLs.
